2006 was really Corydon Rio Grande’s year. He started the year by being Best Puppy and Best of Breed at Doncaster Open Show in Early January, where he was also Group 4 and Puppy Group 3. His next show was Northumberland & Durham Collie Open Show where he won 3 first prizes and Best Dog and Best Puppy in Show. Next up was Manchester where he was Reserve Best Dog and Best Puppy. In March he went to West Torrington where he was Best of Breed
and Group 2. In April he went to the Smooth Collie Club Open Show where he won Best in Show. Later in the month he went to Yorkshire & North Midland Working & Pastoral Breeds Open Show where he was Best of Breed and Group 2. He won his class at the Lancashire & Cheshire Collie Championship Show then into May he went to Birmingham National Ch Show where he won the Dog CC. Two weeks later it was Bath Ch Show where he again won the Dog CC. At
this show he also won the Pastoral Junior Stakes Class and was runner up for the top award. He then waited to grow a new coat and went to LKA Ch Show in December where he won his third and qualifying CC and was Best of Breed So he CH CORYDON RIO GRANDE . At the Bath Show he also won enough Junior warrant
points to win that award as well.
However, his kennel mate Demelewis Dark Moon Driftin Over Corydon was not to be completely overshadowed with the following wins to his credit. It started at the East Anglian Collie Association Open Show where he was Best Puppy in Show and Best Dog in Show. Rio Grande’s sister Corydon Rio Rita was Best in Show at this event. Not a bad day for us. His next show was Midland Collie Club Ch Show where he won 2 first prizes. Then at the British Collie Club Ch Show he won another 2 first prizes. The next day he went to the Sheffield Open Show where he was Best of Breed and also won the variety
Puppy Dog Class. 4 days later it was Crufts and here he won the Special Puppy Dog Class and was Best Puppy in the breed. At the West Torrington Show he was Best Puppy and Puppy Group 2. At the Collie Association Open Show in March he won another 2 First Prizes and he won the Junior Dog Class at the Smooth Collie Open Show. At the Yorks and Midlands Pastoral Show he won 2 more first prizes and was Puppy Group 2. He won another first Prize at the
Lancashire & Cheshire Championship Show which qualified him for the Junior Warrant. Interestingly he beat Rio Grande to this award by 3 weeks. He was retired for several months after this show so that he could grow a new coat, but we took him to West of England Championship Show in September where he won the Special Yearling Dog Class and the London & Provincial Collie Club
Ch Show in November where he won the Graduate Dog Class. But it was in 2007 that he really started to come into his own. His litter sister Demelewis Jade Moon at Corydon became a Champion in Hong Kong during the early part of 2006. And his other sister that we kept Demelewis Moon Muffin with Corydon won 5 first prizes.
So the year was an excellent year for the Corydon Kennel.
The year ended with a bang because the new bitch puppy Corydon Copperita won Best Puppy and Reserve Best of Breed at Sleaford Open Show and thenwon the Pastoral Puppy Group at her very first show.
